Abstract composition in charcoal
Using Lines and ShapesOHS Art I students are studying the ELEMENTS & PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN. In this abstract composition, students used elements of lines, shapes and values to create dynamic drawings. They were urged to fill up the entire space by going off at least two edges of the paper and overlapping shapes. The most successful compositions show the principle of contrast by using at least 5 values ranging from very dark to very light. Charcoal is messy but very expressive. Students were excited to experiment with it.
